Psalms 59

Prayer for Deliverance from Enemies.

For the choir director; set to Al-tashheth. A Mikhtam of David, when Saul sent men and they watched the house in order to kill him.

1 Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;

Set mesecurelyon high away from those who rise up against me.

2 Deliver me from those who do iniquity

And save me from men of bloodshed.

3 For behold, they have set an ambush for my life;

# Fierce menlaunch an attack against me,

Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord,

4 For no guilt ofmine,they run and set themselves against me.

Arouse Yourself to help me, and see!

5 You, O LordGod of hosts, the God of Israel,

Awake to punish all the nations;

Do not be gracious to anywho aretreacherous in iniquity. Selah.

6 They return at evening, they howl like a dog,

And go around the city.

7 Behold, they belch forth with their mouth;

Swords are in their lips,

For,they say,”Who hears?”

8 But You, O Lord, laugh at them;

You scoff at all the nations.

9 Because ofhis strength I will watch for You,

For God is my stronghold.

10 My God in His lovingkindness will meet me;

God will let me looktriumphantlyupon my foes.

11 Do not slay them, or my people will forget;

Scatter them by Your power, and bring them down,

O Lord, our shield.

12 On account ofthe sin of their mouthandthe words of their lips,

Let them even be caught in their pride,

And on account of curses and lies which they utter.

13 Destroythemin wrath, destroythemthat they may be no more;

Thatmenmay know that God rules in Jacob

To the ends of the earth. Selah.

14 They return at evening, they howl like a dog,

And go around the city.

15 They wander aboutfor food

And growl if they are not satisfied.

16 But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength;

Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning,

For You have been my stronghold

And a refuge in the day of my distress.

17 O my strength, I will sing praises to You;

For God is my stronghold, the God who shows me lovingkindness.

Psalms 60

Lament over Defeat in Battle, and Prayer for Help.

For the choir director; according to #Shushan Eduth. A Mikhtam of David, to teach; when he struggled with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, and Joab returned, and smote twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt.

1 O God, You have rejected us. You have broken us;

You have been angry; O, restore us.

2 You have made the land quake, You have split it open;

Heal its breaches, for it totters.

3 You have made Your people experience hardship;

You have given us wine to drink that makes us stagger.

4 You have given a banner to those who fear You,

That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

5 That Your beloved may be delivered,

Save with Your right hand, and answer us!

6 God has spoken in Hisholiness:

“I will exult, I will portion out Shechem and measure out the valley of Succoth.

7 “Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine;

Ephraim also is the helmet of My head;

# Judah is Myscepter.

8 “Moab is My washbowl;

Over Edom I shall throw My shoe;

Shout loud, O Philistia, because of Me!”

9 Who will bring me into the besieged city?

Who will lead me to Edom?

10 Have not You Yourself, O God, rejected us?

And will You not go forth with our armies, O God?

11 O give us help against the adversary,

For deliverance by man is in vain.

12 Through God we shall do valiantly,

And it is He who will tread down our adversaries.

Psalms 62

God Alone a Refuge from Treachery and Oppression.

For the choir director; according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

1 My soulwaitsin silence for God only;

From Him is my salvation.

2 He only is my rock and my salvation,

My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.

3 How long will you assail a man,

That you may murderhim,all of you,

Like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?

4 They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position;

They delight in falsehood;

They bless with their mouth,

But inwardly they curse. Selah.

5 My soul, wait in silence for God only,

For my hope is from Him.

6 He only is my rock and my salvation,

My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.

7 On God my salvation and my gloryrest;

The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.

8 Trust in Him at all times, O people;

Pour out your heart before Him;

God is a refuge for us. Selah.

9 Men of low degree are only vanity and men of rank are a lie;

In the balances they go up;

They are together lighter than breath.

10 Do not trust in oppression

And do not vainly hope in robbery;

If riches increase, do not setyourheartupon them.

11 Once God has spoken;

# Twice I have heard this:

That power belongs to God;

12 And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord,

For You recompense a man according to his work.

Psalms 63

The Thirsting Soul Satisfied in God.

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

1 O God, You are my God; I shall seek Youearnestly;

My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,

In a dry and weary land where there is no water.

2 Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary,

To see Your power and Your glory.

3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,

My lips will praise You.

4 So I will bless You as long as I live;

I will lift up my hands in Your name.

5 My soul is satisfied as withmarrow and fatness,

And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.

6 When I remember You on my bed,

I meditate on You in the night watches,

7 For You have been my help,

And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.

8 My soul clings to You;

Your right hand upholds me.

9 But those who seek my life to destroy it,

Will go into the depths of the earth.

10 They will be delivered over to the power of the sword;

They will be a prey for foxes.

11 But the king will rejoice in God;

Everyone who swears by Him will glory,

For the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.

Psalms 64

Prayer for Deliverance from Secret Enemies.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

1 Hear my voice, O God, in mycomplaint;

Preserve my life from dread of the enemy.

2 Hide me from the secret counsel of evildoers,

From the tumult of those who do iniquity,

3 Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword.

They aimed bitter speechastheir arrow,

4 To shoot from concealment at the blameless;

Suddenly they shoot at him, and do not fear.

5 They hold fast to themselves an evil purpose;

They talk of laying snares secretly;

They say, “Who can see them?”

6 Theydevise injustices,saying,

“We are ready with a well-conceived plot”;

# For the inward thought and the heart of a man aredeep.

7 But God will shoot at them with an arrow;

Suddenly they will be wounded.

8 So they will make him stumble;

Their own tongue is against them;

All who see them will shake the head.

9 Then all men will fear,

And they will declare the work of God,

And will consider what He has done.

10 The righteous man will be glad in the Lordand will take refuge in Him;

And all the upright in heart will glory.

Your holy temple.

5 By awesomedeedsYou answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation,

You who are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea;

6 Who establishes the mountains by His strength,

Being girded with might;

7 Who stills the roaring of the seas,

The roaring of their waves,

And the tumult of the peoples.

8 They who dwell in the endsof the earthstand in awe of Your signs;

You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.

9 You visit the earth and cause it to overflow;

You greatly enrich it;

The stream of God is full of water;

You prepare their grain, for thus You prepare the earth.

10 You water its furrows abundantly,

You settle its ridges,

You soften it with showers,

You bless its growth.

11 You have crowned the year with Your bounty,

And Your paths dripwithfatness.

12 The pastures of the wilderness drip,

And the hills gird themselves with rejoicing.

13 The meadows are clothed with flocks

And the valleys are covered with grain;

They shout for joy, yes, they sing.

And let those who hate Him flee before Him.

As wax melts before the fire,

Solet the wicked perish before God.

3 But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God;

Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.

Lift upa songfor Him who rides through the deserts,

Whose name is the Lord, and exult before Him.

5 A father of the fatherless and a judgefor the widows,

Is God in His holy habitation.

6 God makes a home for the lonely;

He leads out the prisoners into prosperity,

Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

7 O God, when You went forth before Your people,

When You marched through the wilderness, Selah.

8 The earth quaked;

The heavens also droppedrainat the presence of God;

Sinai itselfquakedat the presence of God, the God of Israel.

9 You shed abroad a plentiful rain, O God;

You confirmed Your inheritance when it was parched.

10 Your creatures settled in it;

You provided in Your goodness for the poor, O God.

11 The Lord gives the command;

The women who proclaim thegoodtidings are a great host:

12 “Kings of armies flee, they flee,

And she who remains at home will divide the spoil!”

13 When you lie down among thesheepfolds,

You are likethe wings of a dove covered with silver,

And its pinions with glistening gold.

14 When the Almighty scattered the kings there,

It was snowing in Zalmon.

15 A mountain of God is the mountain of Bashan;

A mountainof manypeaks is the mountain of Bashan.

16 Why do you look with envy, O mountains withmanypeaks,

At the mountain which God has desired for His abode?

Surely the Lordwill dwellthereforever.

17 The chariots of God aremyriads, thousands upon thousands;

The Lord is among themas atSinai, in holiness.

18 You have ascended on high, You have led captiveYourcaptives;

You have received gifts among men,

Evenamongthe rebellious also, that the LordGod may dwellthere.

19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden,

The Godwhois our salvation. Selah.

I will bringthemback from the depths of the sea;

23 That your foot may shatterthemin blood,

The tongue of your dogsmay haveits portion fromyourenemies.”

24 They have seen Your procession, O God,

The procession of my God, my King, into the sanctuary.

25 The singers went on, the musicians afterthem,

In the midst of the maidens beating tambourines.

26 Bless God in the congregations,

Eventhe Lord,you who areof the fountain of Israel.

27 There is Benjamin, the youngest, ruling them,

The princes of Judahintheir throng,

The princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.

28 Your God has commanded your strength;

Show Yourself strong, O God, who have acted on our behalf.

29 Because of Your temple at Jerusalem

Kings will bring gifts to You.

30 Rebuke the beasts in the reeds,

The herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples,

Trampling under foot the pieces of silver;

He has scattered the peoples who delight in war.

31 Envoys will come out of Egypt;

Ethiopia will quickly stretch out her hands to God.

32 Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth,
